Picking up scrolls helps to level up your character. Similarly, if you pick up books, they translate to more scrolls.

When you have a weapon, this is your primary mode of defending yourself. Abilities may be offensive or passive, which can give you buff bonuses to things such as attack speed, or even some direct attacks in some cases.
